Concept –
An Elixir of Life
Where subtle line forms an imagery of simple rustic lives of rural Bengal, sickle moon sneaks into the lives of obscure poor people and throws a romantic spotlight upon them Baidyanath Boldey harvests his painting imagery there and pours his soul. .Baidyanath believes in simplicity of life so his lines and he uses minimum color to emphasize the delicate reality of village folks which is typical of Bengal.
Baidyanath Boldey hailing from South of Bengal near to Sunderban remains tied up with his rural root. He came out of Indian art College with BVA in Sculpture with flying colors in 2004. He finds solace in painting always and after that he continued his execellencein many shows. His awards and acclamations also followed.
He enjoys beauty in line drawing with color black upon white backdrop, which plays the matrix of life and with only few touches of yellow ochre or rust color he does poetic justice to his paintings. The village life portrays the tale of love, longing, lust, humble surrender to laxity, playful enjoyment, awkward perplexity to the deities, darkness for forest, or sacrifice of humanity to the edifice of society.
One of the rich portrayals of a utopian world is the painting with hookah. Hookah actually symbolizes the man’s lust in life. The plait encircling the entire frame shows strong feminine presence which arouses the male sexuality. The allegory in this painting is beautifully depicted with sinuous lines of the plaited hair, hypnotic movements of the bodies and changing facial expression. The presence of both inanimate objects like umbrella, lantern, hand pankha, chappals, shoes and the animated objects like owl, cat , fish, birds, monkey creates a fairy tale of love, longings, acceptance, expectation of simple rustic folks. The obscure deities sitting upon the tiger shows complete reign over land, water, forest of fearsome areas of Sunderban. The mermaid in Bengali life sometimes becomes deity, sometimes just a doll, sometimes lustrous lady.
All the imageries Baidyanath Boldey has used in his painting are deep delved thought processing of human mind, as they are not mere symbols. The paintings may have an essence of strong patachitra genre but the contemporary way of execution is mesmerizing. Love, rejection, closeness, integrity, sexual longing, and conjugal behavior every emotion of human life casts an aura over every painting which is very much universal.
